The EULawSD module organised yearly series of webinars to complement teaching activities, engage with practitioners, and foster debate with the general public.
Webinars were set up through YouTube Live and uploaded to this website for permanent use. These 1-hour events were set up during both the duration of the course and the other months of each year, in order to continue the discussion with students and other stakeholders. The webinars’ outputs also provided the basis for further dissemination activities (e.g. blog posts, policy papers) undertaken by the teaching staff.
The topics of the webinars were calibrated according to the themes touched upon during the course, while also building upon them to analyse case studies and recent developments in the larger context of international and EU law on sustainable development. Invitees included experts on EU law and sustainable development, policy-makers and practitioners, relying upon the networks of the teaching staff as well as on the opportunities arising from the collaboration with SDSN.

Marianne Kettunen (Principal Policy Analyst and Head of Global Challenges and SDGs Programme, Institute for European Environmental Policy), ‘An Assessment of the European Commission’s Reflection Paper “Towards a Sustainable Europe by 2030”‘
Marianne Ketunnen is leading IEEP’s global portfolio of work. She has over ten years of expertise in issues related to the EU and international biodiversity policy with special focus on assessing the socio-economic importance of biodiversity and ecosystem services and supporting the integration of these aspects into policies and decision-making processes, in the aid of green economy and sustainable development.
Since joining IEEP in 2005 Marianne has contributed to a range of EU and international policy developments, leading a range of projects linked to natural capital and the green economy, socio-economic benefits of nature conservation, biodiversity financing and external dimensions of the EU biodiversity policy. She has also authored numerous peer reviewed articles and book chapters, including a book on the socio-economic value of protected areas.

Gabriela A. Oanta (Associate Professor of Public International Law), ‘The European Union and Sustainable Fisheries Partnership Agreements‘
Gabriela A. Oanta is an Associate Professor of Public International Law and International Relations at the University of A Coruña (Spain). She currently holds the position of Director of ‘Salvador de Madariaga’ University Institute of European Studies within the same university.
Gabriela is in charge with the coordination of the Jean Monnet Module on “European Union’s Integrated Maritime Policy”. She has been a member of Working Group I of MARSAFENET (http://www.marsafenet.org) since 2012 as well as a member of different research groups and projects financed by various international and Spanish research institutions. Since 2008, her research has been focused on international law of the sea, the EU Common Fisheries Policy and international development law.

Giovanni Gruni (Research Fellow, ESADE Law School), ‘Sustainability Obligations in EU Free Trade Agreements‘
Giovanni Gruni is a Beatriu de Pinos Research Fellow at the ESADE Law School in Barcelona, Spain, which he joined in 2019. Previously, he was Assistant Professor at the Europa Institute of the University of Leiden.
He holds a PhD in international economic law from the University of Oxford, an LLM in EU law from the European University Institute and a master degree in law from the University of Florence.
Giovanni was a trainee at the Appellate Body of the World Trade Organization. Besides, he attended non-degree programs at the Hague Academy of International Law and the University of Cambridge and collaborated with the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food and the Oxford Future for Food program. He is a member of the Oxford Human Rights Hub and takes part to the Harvard Institute for Global Law and Policy.
