Prof. Federico Casolari, “Systemic Violations of the Rule of Law Before the EU Court of Justice”
Federico Casolari is Associate professor of European Union Law at the Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna School of Law where he teaches EU law. He currently serves as member of the Flying Faculty of the China-EU School of Law (CESL), member of the Faculty of the “EU Disaster Response Law in an International Context” Summer School (University of Milano), member of the European Society of International Law and also a member of the Italian Society of International Law.
Federico Casolari studied law in Modena and obtained his PhD at the University of Bologna (2006). He was a visiting professor at the Institute for European Studies of the Université Libre de Bruxelles (Brussels) in 2012; a visiting fellow at the College of Law, Australian National University, in 2014. In 2015 he has been elected as member of the Executive Council of the Italian Society of International and European Union Law for the period 2015-2018. Federico Casolari’s current research agenda includes the relationship between European Union law and international law; the external relations of the European Union; the general principles of EU law; and the international & European disaster response law.
He has taught several academic courses related to EU law, international law, and the law of International Organizations, complemented by significant experiences dealing with the practice of EU law. He has been a speaker at several international conferences and symposia and visiting fellow in a number of foreign academic institutions.

Prof. Lorenzo Gradoni, “‘Theory and Practice of Counter-Limits Versus the Primacy of International and EU Law”
Lorenzo Gradoni is Senior Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute Luxembourg for International, European and Regulatory Procedural Law. Before joining the Max Planck Institute Luxembourg, Lorenzo Gradoni was associate professor of International Law at the University of Bologna. He was also Guest at the Institute (2015), visiting professor at the Ecole de Droit de la Sorbonne (2011-14) and Research Assistant at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (2009-10). He holds a PhD in EU Law from the University of Bologna (2003).
He’s the recipient of the Italian Society of International Law Prize (2008) and the European Society of International Law Book Prize (2010). His main research interests include international legal theory, international inter-systemic law, international law and politics, WTO law, and international criminal law.

Prof. Francesco Munari, “The Circular Economy and the New EU Waste Legislation”
Francesco Munari is Professor of EU law at the University of Genoa and a former Jean Monnet Chair of transnational environmental law from 2015 to 2017. He is also an Adjunct Professor at Libera Università degli Studi Sociali (LUISS) Guido Carli in Rome. Previously, he has been visiting scholar at Yale University; visiting professor at the University of Hamburg, where he taught international law, EU law and EC trade law; and visiting research fellow at the Max-Planck-Institut of Hamburg.
Prof Munari is acknowledged as a legal scholar in the fields of EU law, transport and transport infrastructures, air and maritime navigation, antitrust and regulated markets, environmental law. He is the author (or co-author) of eight monographic works, and of several essays and articles in Italian and foreign legal reviews. He currently serves as chairperson of the Inter-university Centre on the Law of International Economic Organizations (CIDOIE), as well as a board member of the Italian Centre of Excellency for Integrated Logistics and Transport, of the Italian Society of International and European Union Law, of the Italian Society for Transport Policy, of the European Maritime Law Organization, of the Italian Association of Maritime Law.
Munari is a partner and co-founder of the law-firm Munari Giudici Maniglio Panfili & Associati, with main offices in Genoa, where he acts as avvocato and arbitrator in civil and commercial matters in domestic and international disputes, mainly on the same topics mentioned above.
