A Jean Monnet Module is a short teaching programme (or course) in the field of European Union studies at a higher education institution. Each Module has a minimum duration of 40 teaching hours per academic year and must focus on one particular discipline in European studies or be multidisciplinary requiring the academic input of several professors and experts.
The aim of the modules is to promote research and teaching experience among young researchers, scholars and practitioners in EU issues, foster the publication and dissemination of academic research, create interest in the EU, foster the introduction of an EU angle mainly into non EU related studies and deliver tailor-made courses on specific EU issues relevant for graduates in their professional life.
In 2019, Jean Monnet Modules and all other Jean Monnet Activities celebrate their 30th anniversary. In 1989, the Jean Monnet programme was launched to support academic research on European integration in its Member States. Thirty years on, the programme continues to fund teaching and research on EU policies and fosters dialogue between academics, decision makers and civil society actors around the world.
How are Jean Monnet Modules funded?
Jean Monnet Modules, as the other Jean Monnet activities, are co-funded under the Erasmus+ Programme. The following can benefit:
- higher education institutions or other organisations active in the European Union subject area, especially academics specialised in European Union studies;
- policy-makers and professionals;
- civil society and the general public at large.
